Monica Erundina Rubio Sanchez, a beautiful woman, with talents in sewing, cooking and a unique and beautiful singing voice. She passed away on September 2, 2011, after a long and sad struggle with Parkinson's disease. I miss her, she did her best to love and care for me. I learned many good things from her about sacrifice, devotion, persistence, and how to render service. It has been mine to decide how her example would teach me to make good choices, in my own life. My desire is that my children, grandchildren and so on, know I love them, I am proud of them, grateful to know them and its been my privilege to be a witness to their greatness.
This last week my mother-in-law unexpectedly passed away. Linda Kay Losser Dayton was full of Life despite her ailing health. I first met Linda when I was just a young girl, she was friendly and very welcoming. Later, as I became friends with all her children she was always good visit with me and try to make me feel welcomed, in her home. Linda taught me things through her example, that my own mother didn't model, she took time to sit and learn about others. She was charitable and generous to the needy and down trodden. She took time out from everyday duties and responsibilities and made playing with her kids and grandkids a priority.
As I guess is natural and expected that I watched and learned about homemaking and raising children from these two women.
Another two women I have watched and learned from are my two sisters,
Marigeli and Isis are 6 and 7 years older than me. Isis taught me basic things about keeping my room clean, doing my homework and driving a car. Maria introduced me and our family to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She called for the missionaries to come and teach our family the discussions and my dad and I went to church with her, he wanted to see what this church was all about. This changed the course of my life in the most significant and valuable way.
As I have met good women, that seem to have a special qualities, I have watched them carefully. I have even asked them about their special qualities. I asked Sister Leila Horne what had helped her to have so much vitality and health. We were at the gym very early one morning, she said there are 3 things: studying the Scriptures, Serving others, and being physically active. Simple as her secret was I have been following her advise for at least some 15 years. I feel her secret has started to work in my favor.
